great gifts for the gardener in your life, or for YOU!

November 19, 2018

With the holiday season upon us, you might find yourself in need of the perfect gift for your favorite gardening friend. Or, these might be good ideas when someone asks YOU what you want for Christmas.  I’ve put together a small list that may be helpful in your shopping endeavors.

holiday gifts for gardeners

I own and use each of the items on this list and would buy again in a second.

(1) The original GrowBox planter – I have 7 or 8 of these and this was my entry into vegetable gardening when we lived in the city and I grew most everything in containers on the deck. Over the years I would buy one or two more each year to expand my garden. These containers are amazing! They have a built-in self-watering mechanism and come with a nutrient patch that overlays the soil. You can grow almost any vegetable in this container. One year, I grew 10 stalks of corn in one container.

(2) A Way to Garden by Margaret Roach – Love me some Margaret! I have 3 of her books and listen to her podcast every week. If you are not familiar with her work, she has a fantastic blog and podcast. Check her out!

(3) Pine Tree Tools Bamboo Working Gloves – Bought a pair of these earlier this year. I am in love with them. They fit so well and are so comfortable I never want to take them off. The seller states in the product description that they are like a second skin and I agree. Also, they are made of Touchscreen friendly material, so no need to take the gloves off when you want to snap that perfect photo out in the garden.

(4) Transplanter – Did you know that Pampered Chef sells gardening tools?? Well, they do! I love their kitchen tools and found out not too long ago that they also sell gardening tools. Ordered this transplanter last year and so happy I did. The quality is much better than most of what I was finding elsewhere and it has depth markings on it to help you get just the right depth for what you are planting.

(5) Squirrel Buster bird feeder – I just ordered one of these for our property and set it out this weekend. It was upon recommendation by the above-mentioned Ms. Roach. This is a high-quality feeder that is designed just right. It is truly squirrel proof and is made with a patented seed ventilation system. The feeder is adjustable to control which size birds can feed on it, based on weight. The manufacturer, Brome, offers a lifetime warranty to boot. I replaced our old feeder with this one and I’m excited to see how it changes the birding situation here.

So, that rounds it up. Hopefully that is helpful for you during your holiday shopping!
