Greetings! This week we are covering chapter 19 of the Tao te Ching. If you’d like some background on this little project of mine, please take a look at this page. Then come back here and join in the conversation. All are welcome! In fact, I would love to read some comments, it’s getting lonely over here!
This chapter is another very short one. I feel like it is geared towards leaders and those in positions of authority; however, I think the message is applicable to everyday life as well. The takeaway for me is: Be simple, respectful, and just plain decent, to gain trust and bring out the best in people and situations. If there is no moral high ground, preaching, boundaries that separate, then there will be no need for negative reactivity.
People appreciate honesty and prefer to be treated as equals, respected. No guile, no pretense. We might just look each other in the eyes and see a fellow human being. We are all the same.
What are your thoughts?
