For many years my garden seed storage system was extremely simple and homemade. I stored my seeds in zippered storage bags (think: kitchen ziploc bags). I considered this to be good enough. It got the job done. Then over time, the minor little annoyances began to get to me:
- Even though the bags were getting pretty fat with seed packets, they didn’t stand upright. This meant that if they fell over, there was the risk of seeds falling out of the packets.
- Sometimes a category of seed, such as beans or tomatoes, would outgrow its bag and then need multiple bags. Harder to keep things organized.
- And how to store the bags themselves? I would usually just lean them up against something else in my garden supply area.
It wasn’t optimal. It worked for a while so I used it. Then I found this super duper organizer on amazon:
I have been in love with this since it arrived. Here’s why it is so awesome:
It comes with dividers that allow me to make each section larger or smaller.
While I will likely keep it in the flat position at all times, it does have a handle for carrying.
Best of all – It is the perfect height for storing seeds in an upright position. How did they know??
This bin was right around $30. I realize that might be a chunk of change for something that sits passively on a shelf for most of the year and doesn’t get actively used too frequently. I was willing to plunk down the money and so glad I did. It has eased my gardening life in a big way. If you’ve been looking for a new way to store your seeds, I hope this was helpful for you. Or maybe you have a great way to store seeds already? Please share in the comments.
Til next time!
