That’s a quote from the book The Garden Primer by Barbara Damrosch. Actually, the full quote is “It is often said that a green thumb is a dirty thumb.” That is from the book’s introduction. Some thoughts on houseplants…I can summarize my approach by saying: choose 2 or 3 varieties that are practically indestructible and repeat these throughout the house. I know, pretty boring, right? While I have a fairly green thumb when it comes to outdoor gardening, I did not inherit my Mom’s knack for maintaining a glorious array of houseplants. ferns

Last spring I bought 3 Kimberly Queen ferns for a total cost of roughly $50 (ouch!). They filled in a bare spot in front of our porch and looked perfect there. Not wanting to have to repurchase more ferns this year, I cut them back and moved them inside when the weather started getting too cold.
