what’s happening in the garden

July 9, 2018

Hi all! We are busy bees in our household right now, preparing for our annual cookout. Just popping in to give a quick garden update. These preparations get me outdoors and noticing things I otherwise might have missed. Last year, I saw the sweetest flowers that I almost walked right past, and the year before that I was able to snap some photos of a perfect butterfly, here.

We have a bunch of cherry tomatoes. This is the first time I’ve grown them and aren’t they too cute?

The giant holly bush is sporting berries. The birds will feast on these.

We have several glorious catalpa trees here and about.

Unfortunately, for the last few years the catalpa worms have defoliated them. This is just the start, in a couple of weeks they will have multiplied like crazy. It’s mind boggling how much they can and do consume!

The rose of sharon shrubs are blooming. Their flowers put off a tropical feeling to me. Plus they are so hardy. I love having them around.

There are wild blackberries all over. It is so much fun to pick them and eat them right off the vine, if we can get to them before the wildlife does, that is!

The peppers are finally coming out. We have some that are bigger than this, but isn’t this one so cute?

Well, that is my garden update at the moment. Hope you are enjoying life!
