thoughtful thursday: don’t let fear be a show stopper!

January 10, 2019

Hey all! How is your January 2019 going?

I’m starting something new to the blog this year. Realizing that I hardly ever post on my readings, musings, and journaling these days (those DEEP THOUGHTS!) and that I miss it, it came to me that I could do a weekly post – Thoughtful Thursday! Turns out, that is already a thing. So, I am jumping on it!

Today’s thoughts are around the January 10th entry from the book, The Language of Letting Go by Melody Beattie. In it she writes about Fear:

“Fear can be a big stopper for many of us: fear of fragility, fear of failure, fear of making a mistake, fear of what others might think, fear of success. We may second-guess our next action or word until we talk ourselves out of participating in life.”

Are there things that you’d like to do, or even need to do, but are afraid of just doing? I know for me, there ARE those things. Lots of those things. Fear is holding me back.

Melody goes on to tell us to relax, that our best is good enough. It may even be better than we think. And if we experience a failure, it is okay. Failures happen to teach us and prepare us for the success that is to follow.

Failure can be a hard thing to live with. But…so can regret.

I love this paragraph: “Feel the fear, then let it go. Jump in and do it – whatever it is. If our instincts and path have led us there, it’s where we need to be.”

Is there one thing that we can do this year that we have been afraid of doing? One thing that, if we just did it, would make all the difference in our lives? I keep this quote near and dear (it’s not from Melody’s book; unfortunately, I cannot remember where I read it): “We are only ever one decision away from a completely different life.” POWERFUL!

What are you thinking about today?
