our laundry room has a new look

January 14, 2019

There is so little gardening activity to be done right smack in the middle of winter- at least until seed starting time comes (next month!), it seems like a great time to work on home improvements. As promised, I have some updates on the projects we worked on over the holidays.

The man and I kind of split things up. I worked on repainting the laundry room and changing out the ceiling light fixture there. He worked on replacing all the fixtures in one of our bathrooms. The plumbing fixtures are swapped out, and the new lighting has yet to be installed. Updates to come soon.

Here are some photos of how the laundry room turned out.

I went with Benjamin Moore Smokey Taupe for the new color. Love it! It seems lighter and calmer. The old color was also a BM color, Sierra Hills. It was nice for a while (6 years). I’m trying to move everything to a more neutral palette.

As for the new light fixture, I have to say that while I do love it, it did take some getting used to. I was so used to that big fluorescent fixture (it looks smaller in the photo than it did in real life) that the new one seemed so tiny at first, too small for the space. In fact, it is just the right size for this small room. Looks less industrial and it is also brighter. The old fixture had 2 tube lights and the new one has 4 LED bulbs.

This was my first time changing out a light fixture. I am not going to lie, it turned out that I couldn’t do it alone. I enlisted the man’s help, as it was awkward holding it above my head and trying to connect wires and attach it to the ceiling, etc. But still, I am proud of taking the plunge to try something outside of my comfort zone.

Hope your January is going well!
