It seems like I just put the garden to bed for the winter. And it still IS winter out there, technically. But, since it’s February, that means it is time to get the some of the seeds started indoors if I want them to be ready in time for transplanting. I finally got my containers cleaned and sanitized.
I’m pretty sure I will not be using all of these containers this year, but some of them hadn’t been cleaned in a couple of years and the sink was already full of bleach water, so why not?
We are right at 8 weeks out from our average last frost date and here are some of the veggies that I could be seeding this month.
- Leeks – mid to late February (8-10 weeks before last frost date)
- Onions – mid to late February (8-10 weeks before last frost date)
- Peppers – mid to late February (8-10 weeks before last frost date)
- Chives – mid to late February (8-10 weeks before last frost date)
- Tomatoes – late Feb to early March (6-8 weeks before last frost)
- Cabbage – late Feb to early March (6-8 weeks before last frost date)
- Cauliflower – late Feb to early March (7-8 weeks before last frost date)
- Broccoli – late Feb to early March (7-8 weeks before last frost date)
- Brussels sprouts – late Feb to early March (6-8 weeks before last frost date)
However, I am saving myself the heartache and skipping the cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli this year. I’ve not had success with those for 3 years now and am holding off trying them again until I am prepared to take all the measures necessary to keep them safe and thriving.
Also, I am not doing chives, simply because I do not cook with them very much.
So, that leaves leeks, onions, peppers, tomatoes, and brussels sprouts. Here are the seeds I’m using.
Maybe I will need all those containers after all. Are you starting any seeds right now?
