thoughtful thursday: the dichotomy of husband and wife

April 25, 2019

Sometimes it really twists my mind how different the man and I are. He is a techie and the best in his field. He is cerebral and can make sense out of computer code running across a screen that looks like gibberish to me. I am a dirt digger who likes nothing more than to be out in the field on a hot summer day. He will spend hours (nay, days) tweaking a 3D printer to coax the very best out of it and I spend that same time very happily hoisting shovelful after shovelful of dirt into a garden bed.

Somehow we click. I like to think that our very different skillsets complement each other nicely. Together, we have been able to accomplish more than I can even comprehend. It has taken us many years to refine our working style when it comes to life, home, garden, and other projects. It was not always smooth sailing and it has been worth all the squabbles (or sometimes even worse!).

On the “big things in life that matter” we are very much in sync. Maybe that is the glue that holds it together. I knew he was the one for me when, shortly after we first met, he told me about one of his two cats, sweet Minerva, who had recently undergone surgery. When others were telling him that maybe he should consider putting her to final rest, he went through with the surgery and helped her through a lengthy recuperation. She was going through that recuperation when I met him. She went on to live a very long, happy life.

So…that is on my mind this week.

What are you thinking about today?
