a long weekend with family and birds

May 27, 2019

Greetings! Hope your week is off to a great start. We had a nice Memorial Day weekend, getting to see family and enjoy the weather. Heartfelt remembrance of those who have served our country and given the ultimate sacrifice, so that we are able to enjoy the freedom we have today.

We spent some time with the in-laws. I’m just a wee bit envious (in a good way!) of my mother-in-law’s garden. It’s so pretty. She manages to keep the marauding deer away for the most part.

We’ve also been bird watching. There is a mourning dove nesting in a cedar tree just outside our dining room window.

Looks like there are two hatchlings. For a few days all we could see was one, then we got a peak at the other baby. Here is mama and one of the babies.

The nest is tucked fairly deep inside the evergreen, making it difficult to really tell what is going on. Every now and then we get a nice view. I’ve been able to get a few semi good photos with a zoom lens, even through the glass.

Here are both of the babies. I guess mama felt okay leaving the nest.

I think it won’t be long now before they are off on their own. It’s been sweet getting to watch this process.

Have a great week!
