tao 22

January 9, 2020

Welcome (or welcome back) to the weekly edition of my very informal Tao te Ching study. It was nice to take a holiday break and I am glad to be back. If you would like a bit more information on this project, here is a link that describes what it is all about. All are welcome to join in with comments and I invite to you to share your thoughts. If you came just for the gardening tips (I feel ya, going into garden withdrawal here), please feel free to read along anyway.

I have a new study resource to share with you. Just this week I found this site, which presents several translations of the Tao te Ching in a very cool format. Go take a look.

Chapter 22 says to me, stop chasing. Make room to allow what it is that you seek, to come to you. If we keep our minds open and our actions humble, we leave space for good things to come. I feel like this lines up nicely with the minimalist movement that seems to be everywhere these days. Let it go (“it” can mean anything, really) and you will be filled up. The more we take, the more we push, the more we show off – the emptier we will feel and the more we will continue to do those behaviors, in vain.

If we let go of the need to prove ourselves, and remain receptive, we will find the sense of well-being and connection that makes us whole.

What are your thoughts?
