favorite gardening podcasts, pt 3

November 11, 2019

Way back in May & then again in October, I posted on my favorite gardening podcasts with the promise of more to come. That is where this post comes in…

My next two podcasts are not focused on just gardening, per se. They cover much more and I just love them.

The Plants We Eat

This podcast is from UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens director, Jeff Gillman, and plant expert Cindy Proctor. I love, love, love these two and their interesting conversations. Each episode features a specific plant and goes DEEP, covering its history, propagation, cultivation, and much more.

Pioneering Today with Melissa K. Norris

I’ve just recently found this one, even though it is not new, by any stretch. Melissa is up to 200+ episodes and covers diverse topics, such as bread making, preparing for winter, medicinal herbs, and the list goes on! She and her family homestead on 15 acres in Washington state. They are in a very rural area and the word “pioneering” is not an exaggeration for what they do. I am in awe of the scope of her homesteading activities and hope to follow suit. Our own homestead is right at the point where farmland meets suburbia and we don’t find ourselves roughing it too often. There is a major grocery store just a few miles away and as the suburbs keep encroaching, the wildness seems to keep diminishing. We definitely have a safety net. Listening to Melissa makes me want to move even farther out!
