thoughtful thursday: sea turtles, revisited

May 2, 2019

Ever since we visited the Georgia Sea Turtle Center in 2017, I’ve had a soft spot in my heart for these beings who face such tough odds. I began following the center’s Instagram account and the below post came across my feed today. The post finishes with “Rediheal and tissue glue was also placed in the some of the lower jaw where pieces were missing. The surgery went well for the snapper!” Wow! Hands on my heart and saluting the…

“the wall” – it’s coming along

April 30, 2019

So…you may’ve read a couple of my posts recently (one of them here) that refer to a retaining wall that we’ve been working on for several years now, off and on. We’ve worked on and completed so many other things while this wall was in progress. It wasn’t the most urgent thing, so it got attention in fits and starts. The man finished constructing it last year. On our project list for this year is to fill it in with…

i’m digging! dogwoods

April 26, 2019

This week I am digging all the dogwoods blooming everywhere! We have a few at our place and this one is my favorite. It is much prettier in person, hard to get a good photo with all the other trees surrounding it. Have a great weekend!…

thoughtful thursday: the dichotomy of husband and wife

April 25, 2019

Sometimes it really twists my mind how different the man and I are. He is a techie and the best in his field. He is cerebral and can make sense out of computer code running across a screen that looks like gibberish to me. I am a dirt digger who likes nothing more than to be out in the field on a hot summer day. He will spend hours (nay, days) tweaking a 3D printer to coax the very best…

i’m digging! redbuds

April 19, 2019

This week I am digging the redbud trees blooming all over. We are working to clear out some scraggly overgrown areas around our pond and uncovered a redbud that we didn’t know was there before. The space was so overgrown, it was hiding the good stuff! This particular tree seems kind of scrawny. I’m hoping now that it has some space, it might fill out a bit. You can see a glimpse of the blossoms below. That thicker trunk in…

thoughtful thursday: the sounds of nature

April 18, 2019

Greetings! Hope your week is going well. Mine has been hectic, between work and garden. My thoughts have been here, there, and everywhere. I’m making sure to spend time outdoors just to enjoy the soothing sounds of nature. It is the nicest way to keep my mind calm. I was able to catch the setting sun last night and of course, the sound of water and birds (ignore that car in the background, no way to get rid of those!).…

we were busy this weekend!

April 15, 2019

Still going strong with spring cleanup and prep activities. Thought I’d give a little peek into what we’ve been working on over the weekend. We are expecting a large soil delivery (3 cubic yards!) and have a couple tarps set up so the crew can just dump it right on. It’ll be used to fill up the area inside the retaining wall to the left of the tarps and the new raised veggie garden beds. I also began transplanting some…

i’m digging! springtime for real

April 12, 2019

This week I am digging the warm spring temperatures and the sunshine! The deck will become my permanent spot for the next several months. When I am not in the garden, that is. Hope the weather is nice where you are. Have a great weekend!…

thoughtful thursday: love what you have

April 11, 2019

Today’s post was prompted by a new-to-me book I am reading called “Love the Home You Have” by Melissa Michaels. You can check out her blog, The Inspired Room. One of her key tenets is that we can be very happy in our current home, all the while making it our dream home, even if it may be too small, in a bad location, is a rented place, etc. This message resonates with me. I’ve been on a remodeling stint…
