thoughtful thursday: autumn leaves are peeking out

August 15, 2019

I am starting to see signs of autumn. Leaves are just starting to turn around here, just a few. It has seemed to me that in recent years many people consider fall to be here when school starts, which seems earlier and earlier each year. Personally, I like to hold on to summer for as long as absolutely possible. After all, it doesn’t officially end until late into September. And if the weather is still warm, it is still summer…

the gardens at coney island

June 10, 2019

Greetings, all! Today’s post is a quickie with some photos from our outing at Coney Island in Cincinnati this past weekend. It is an amusement park with plenty of other activities, including a water park and outdoor live music theater. The man’s company holds their company picnic there. It was nice to chat with some of his coworkers. We also got to paddle boat, hear some live music, and play mini golf. Of course, I checked out their gardens in…

a long weekend with family and birds

May 27, 2019

Greetings! Hope your week is off to a great start. We had a nice Memorial Day weekend, getting to see family and enjoy the weather. Heartfelt remembrance of those who have served our country and given the ultimate sacrifice, so that we are able to enjoy the freedom we have today. We spent some time with the in-laws. I’m just a wee bit envious (in a good way!) of my mother-in-law’s garden. It’s so pretty. She manages to keep the…

thoughtful thursday: obstacles

May 9, 2019

“Obstacles are nothing but in the way.” A line from one of my new favorite songs, Blind-Sided, by The Sid Hillman Quartet. I’ve enjoyed their music for a while now, and their fourth album (Round About Way) was just released. The guitar in this song is exquisite, and what speaks to me just as much are the lyrics. “Roll around the curves, down straightaways. Obstacles are nothing but in the way. Both of us standing blind-sided. Knowing what’s wrong and…

thoughtful thursday: the dichotomy of husband and wife

April 25, 2019

Sometimes it really twists my mind how different the man and I are. He is a techie and the best in his field. He is cerebral and can make sense out of computer code running across a screen that looks like gibberish to me. I am a dirt digger who likes nothing more than to be out in the field on a hot summer day. He will spend hours (nay, days) tweaking a 3D printer to coax the very best…

i’m digging! springtime for real

April 12, 2019

This week I am digging the warm spring temperatures and the sunshine! The deck will become my permanent spot for the next several months. When I am not in the garden, that is. Hope the weather is nice where you are. Have a great weekend!…

my word for 2019

January 28, 2019

Are you a “word of the year” kind of person? I have been following this practice for several years now. Last year, my word was Open. I had a really hard time choosing a word this year and thought maybe I was getting kind of tired of the whole thing. I realized that I DO like the concept of a word of the year, as evidenced by last year’s word really making a difference in my life. So…I buckled down…

thanksgiving plans have changed – what??

November 12, 2018

Greetings! Are you getting excited for the Big Feast that is coming? We are gearing up for Thanksgiving in our household, although our plans have changed somewhat. Ever since we got married in 2005, we have hosted an “After-Thanksgiving Day Thanksgiving”, more recently known as Friendsgiving. We host our family and friends at our place on the Saturday after the big day. After feasting at one place or another on actual Thanksgiving Day, it’s the whole big dinner all over…
